Happy December, friends! As you prepare for the hustle and bustle of the holidays, we hope you’ll take a moment to learn about another one of our amazing employees!
Meet Melissa Beasley, Senior Corporate Travel Consultant for Gwin’s Travel. Melissa has been working with Gwin’s since March of 2003. She worked in the leisure department for several years before wishing for a change of pace in the Corporate Travel department.
Melissa remembers being drawn to travel at age 10, when she and her family were planning a trip to Cancun. As they were going over the details, all the various aspects involved in the planning amazed her. Even at that age, she knew she was destined to be in the industry. Originally, she wanted to be a flight attendant, but she didn’t meet the height requirements. In 1997, Melissa began working in the industry in Alaska with Avis Rent a Car and then made her way to Gwin’s, where she began work in the leisure department, grew to manage the leisure department, and finally moved into corporate travel.
Melissa loves her job, but what she loves most is “The people!” She likes that everyone is different; each person is a new puzzle to piece together. She enjoys the challenges, “I enjoy figuring out who will need which skill: fix it skills, how do I fit this in here skills, or ‘my boss changed my meeting AGAIN! We need to change the date HELP!’ skills. Those are the best!” Melissa also adores helping her team. “I just love my job, my coworkers and my company. It’s a family place and it feels like home to me.”
She has many great tips. Most importantly, she cautions to never use a debit card to hold a hotel room. This is because most hotels charge at least one night including tax, and sometimes more, often up to a week prior to arrival. If you do use a debit, make certain that you have enough money to cover this charge. Melissa also reminds people to make sure passports are up to date for international travel, including Canada. You passport should be valid for at least 6 months past your return date. Also check on VISA requirements.
Melissa shares that the most interesting place she has ever visited is Northern Ireland, specifically Derry-Londonderry. The rich and tragic history of the area was both “painful and fascinating.” In her spare time, Melissa loves music, especially singing, dancing, and finding new bands to watch live. She was hooked on attending concerts when she saw Michael Jackson at a very young age with her grandma and brother. She also loves to read, but with a busy family life, including a 4 year old, she has little time for that.
We are so glad to have Melissa in our Corporate Travel Department at Gwin’s Travel. She brings great enthusiasm and dedication to her role and to our team. Thank you, Melissa, for all you do!
